Contents of the study program

The dual Bachelor's degree course in nursing combines vocational training in nursing with a university degree.

One focus in the first two semesters is on teaching the basics of human sciences. This includes courses on anatomy, physiology and developmental psychology.
In the third and fourth semesters, this knowledge is then deepened through the main lectures in internal medicine and surgery. You will attend these courses together with students of human medicine and other healthcare professions. There are also other courses, e.g. on dermatology, gynecology and pharmacology.

There is a particular focus on evidence-based nursing practice. These modules accompany you throughout your studies, where you will learn about nursing interventions for various clinical pictures or problems and can classify their evidence on the basis of studies.

Modules on nursing research are also included throughout the course. You will acquire and deepen your knowledge of literature research, various study designs, qualitative and quantitative research and statistics.

The range of course content is rounded off by modules on social science principles and overarching tasks in nursing. They deal with the structure of the healthcare system, are familiar with the legal framework and have an insight into developments in professional policy. They deal with communication models and conflict resolution and are able to adopt different perspectives.

You will complete your studies with the state examination, which consists of a written, practical and oral part, and with the Bachelor's thesis.

In patient-oriented care - conventional tasks of nurses with a special focus on

  • Care of people with complex care needs, e.g. care of critically ill people, discharge management/transition or interprofessional and cross-facility collaboration
  • Adaptation of care structures/processes at ward level, e.g. implementation of new guidelines and standards or implementation of internal team training, case discussions and practical instructions
