Course of studies, specific fields and terms:

Classes and lectures:
- Basic general interventions of nursing diagnostics and interventions I (exercise, 3 SWS)
- Introduction to evidence-based practice - basic measures of nursing diagnostics and interventions I (lecture, 2 SWS)
Workload:
- 75 hours in-classroom work
- 80 hours integrated internship hours
- 25 hours private studies
Contents of teaching:
- Definitions and constitutive characteristics of the terms care dependency, care dependence and care needs
- Steps of the care process
- Introduction to the methods of nursing diagnostics (information resources, survey methods, relevant classifications, especially NANDA, NOC and ICF)
- Methods of assessing the need for support in the activities of daily living in general and specifically in the activities of moving, personal hygiene, eating and drinking and elimination (for people in need of care of all age groups)
- Indications for and adequate implementation of care measures to support the above-mentioned life activities (for people in need of care of all age groups), in particular taking into account individual needs and preferences as well as hygiene requirements
- Clinical significance and methods of vital sign monitoring
- First aid (basic life support measures)
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
- Broadening knowledge: Students can define the terms care dependency, care dependence and care needs and explain the differences depending on the (care) theoretical perspective.
- Broadening knowledge: You know and understand the steps of the care process.
- Broadening knowledge: They can name central methods of nursing observation and diagnostics (including sources of information, survey methods, classifications) and explain their potential and limitations.
- Broadening knowledge: They can explain important observation characteristics and methods for assessing the need for support in the activities of daily living in general and specifically in the areas of movement, personal hygiene, eating and drinking and elimination (in relation to the entire lifespan). They are aware of the need to take into account the individual habits and preferences of those affected in addition to their health restrictions.
- Broadening knowledge: They can explain the indications for and the forms and implementation steps of care measures recommended according to the current state of knowledge to support people in need of care in different age groups in the life activities of moving, personal hygiene, eating and drinking and excretion and transfer them to care situations of moderate complexity.
- Knowledge enhancement: You can explain and justify the measures for checking vital signs and basic first aid measures (Basic Life Support).
- Utilisation and transfer: You can check vital signs safely and accurately on your own and master the basic measures of first aid.
- Utilisation and transfer: They are able to recognise important indications of the support needs of sick adults (moderate complexity of health problems, no or hardly any restrictions in cognitive or communicative abilities) in the life activities of moving, personal hygiene, eating and drinking and elimination. They are able to identify the individual needs, habits and preferences of those affected and take them into account when assessing the need for support.
- Utilisation and transfer: You can select adequate measures to support patients from the above target group in the designated life activities and prepare, implement and follow up these safely.
- Communication and cooperation: You will be able to conduct targeted and structured discussions with patients from the above-mentioned target group to determine their care-related support needs.
- Communication and cooperation: You can seek a targeted verbal exchange with members of the nursing team or relevant other professional groups to assess the nursing support needs of patients in the above-mentioned target group.
- Scientific self-image/professionalism: They are aware of the central importance of a valid determination of the need for nursing support in the core modules of care dependency and the corresponding nursing interventions for the social mission of the nursing profession and the health and participation of those affected.
