New to Lübeck?

Welcome to the Centre for Doctoral Studies Lübeck (CDSL). We wish you a good start to your doctorate.

The information on this page can help you get started in Lübeck.

Health insurance

Doctoral students from abroad need health insurance. Without this, they are not allowed to enrol at a German university for doctoral studies.

Detailed information on this can be found on this website of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

Doctoral students with a scholarship who have not been covered by a public health insurance scheme within the EU within the last 12 months (from the date of registration at the university) are most likely not eligible for statutory health insurance.

In this case, private health insurance can be taken out.

Registration at the registration office of the city of Lübeck

Anyone moving into a flat must register with the registration office at their place of residence within two weeks. Further information can be found here.

Attention: Registration can only be completed by appointment!

Enrolment at the University of Lübeck

As a doctoral candidate at the University of Lübeck, you must register for doctoral studies at the Student Service Centre. You will find it in House 2 (campus map).

This is particularly important for scholarship holders, as otherwise you will not be covered by accident insurance while working at the University of Lübeck. Please also note these information sheets.

(ATTENTION: this does NOT apply to medical students who are doing a doctorate alongside their studies and are already enrolled at the UzL).

These documents are required for enrolment for doctoral studies.

Enrolment for doctoral studies is not automatically extended, but must be applied for each semester (application for enrolment in a doctoral semester).

The International Office is responsible for the enrolment of international doctoral students.

You must also register with the CDSL.
