Contents of teaching:

  • Theories, models and methods of promoting self-care in people of different ages with chronic or severe acute diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
  • Nursing diagnostics (observation criteria and methods, assessment instruments, specialist terms from nursing and multi-professional classification systems, e.g. NANDA and ICF) for people in need of care at different ages with illnesses and health care needs for frequently occurring clinical pictures from the medical specialities of (interventional) cardiology, angiology and pulmonology
  • Special care interventions for people in need of care at different ages, including existing evidence-based recommendations for action with the above-mentioned illnesses, in particular also nursing guidance, counselling and training
  • Concepts and principles of rehabilitation in the above-mentioned medical specialities, requirements for nursing care in the context of rehabilitation for the above-mentioned clinical pictures
  • Disease management programmes, innovative nursing-led care concepts
  • Theories, models and methods of prevention of cardiovascular and respiratory system diseases (primary and secondary prevention), nursing tasks in prevention, innovative prevention concepts with significant nursing involvement
  • Evidence-based planning, implementation, management, coordination and evaluation of nursing interventions for people with common medical conditions in the medical specialities of (interventional) cardiology, angiology and pulmonology

Qualification-goals/Competencies:

  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: Students have a broad understanding of the disease- and situation-specific care-related problems and needs of people in need of care at different ages with the above-mentioned diseases or health care needs in (highly) complex, acute and long-term care situations (see course content).
  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: They know and understand specific instruments and methods for recording the disease- and situation-specific care-related problems and needs of people in need of care of all ages with the above-mentioned diseases. They have an overview of the areas of application of these instruments and methods and are aware of the requirements to be taken into account in accordance with the principles of evidence-based diagnostics.
  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: They know and understand the indications for as well as the courses of action and potential complications of specific nursing interventions for people of all ages in need of care with the above-mentioned illnesses. They know and understand existing evidence-based recommendations for action and have an understanding of the type and quality of the underlying body of knowledge.
  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: They know and understand the indications for and the procedures and possible complications of special medical diagnostic and therapeutic measures, the nursing tasks involved in preparation, implementation and follow-up observation and care.
  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: They know and understand basic theories, concepts and principles of primary and secondary prevention and rehabilitation for people of all age groups with the above-mentioned illnesses and health restrictions and recognise the special requirements for nursing care in the context of prevention and rehabilitation.
  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: Students know the relevant content of counselling and guidance for people in need of care and their caregivers and can apply this individually to their needs.
  • Use and transfer: Students are able to carry out evidence-based planning, organisation, design, implementation, control and evaluation of complex or highly complex care processes for people of different age groups in the above-mentioned specialist areas and the specialist areas from previous modules of evidence-based nursing practice. This includes the ability to critically examine the available information on nursing support needs and existing nursing care arrangements for the above-mentioned people in need of care with regard to their completeness, quality and appropriateness and, if necessary, to obtain further information for the precise assessment of support needs or to derive proposals for adapting care.
  • Communication and cooperation: When planning nursing care for people in need of care in the above-mentioned target groups, they can take into account the perspectives and concerns of others (possibly subsequently) involved in the care. In particular, they are able to involve family members and/or carers appropriately in the design of the care process.
  • Communication and cooperation: You will be able to recognise the special requirements of nursing care for people of all ages in need of care outside the acute care hospital and carry out the nursing tasks involved in transferring patients from one care setting to another.
  • Scientific self-image/professionalism: Students responsibly organise reserved activities such as the assessment and determination of care needs and position scientific care findings in intra- and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Scientific self-image/professionalism: Students justify their own actions on the basis of scientific findings, against the background of laws and regulations as well as ethical guidelines and values.
  • Scientific self-conception/professionalism: Students have an initial understanding of extended nursing and nursing science tasks in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative, also digitally supported concepts for the prevention, support and rehabilitation of diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. They reflect on the ethical, legal and socio-cultural implications of these innovative care concepts.
