Classes and lectures:

  • Applied clinical knowledge in care (seminar, 2 SWS)
  • Main Lecture Internal Medicine in the Study of Human Medicine (lecture, 4 SWS)

Workload:

Contents of teaching:

  • Special medical science on internal diseases in analogy to the main lecture in internal medicine: endocrinology/diabetology, nephrology, gastroeneterology, haematology/haematological oncology, palliative medicine
  • Theories and models of psychological coping with acute critical and chronic illnesses
  • Empirical findings on the consequences of frequently occurring internal diseases (acute, critical and chronic diseases) for the psychological well-being, quality of life and self-care behaviour of those affected (exemplary for diseases with high epidemiological relevance, e.g. obesity, Cushing's disease, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, acute renal failure, chronic renal insufficiency, ulcer ventriculi / ulcer e.g. obesity, Cushing's disease, hypo- and hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, acute renal failure, chronic renal insufficiency, ventricular ulcer / duodenal ulcer, acute pancreatitis, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, anaemia, coagulopathies, malignant leukopoiesis)
  • Case-related transfer of clinical knowledge content to nursing diagnostics and decision-making for people in need of care with internal diseases

Qualification-goals/Competencies:

  • Knowledge and understanding: Students have a sound knowledge and understanding of the specific pathology of acute and chronic internal diseases (pathogenesis and aetiology, symptoms and diagnostics, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, prognosis). The level of this knowledge and understanding corresponds to the basic clinical knowledge taught on the Human Medicine degree programme.
  • Knowledge and understanding: They know and understand psychological theories and models of coping with acute critical and chronic illnesses.
  • Knowledge and understanding: On the basis of current empirical findings, they are sensitised to the effects of acute critical and chronic internal diseases on the mental state, quality of life and self-care behaviour of those affected (exemplary for frequently occurring internal diseases).
  • Use, application and generation of knowledge: They are able to integrate knowledge of the physical, psychological and/or social causes, risk factors, symptoms and consequences as well as the medical treatment of internal diseases on a case-by-case basis with regard to nursing diagnostics and decision-making (exemplarily limited to diseases with a high prevalence in nursing care settings).
  • Use, application and generation of knowledge: They are able to adequately apply knowledge and understanding in the observation and assessment of care-relevant needs and problems of people in need of care as well as in the consecutive nursing decision-making processes.
  • Communication and cooperation: You can describe medically relevant problems and needs that are observed in the context of nursing diagnostics for people in need of care with internal illnesses using appropriate specialist terminology and communicate them in a way that is appropriate to the target group.

- GW1300-KP06 successfully completed
- Successful completion of a test (60% pass mark, B) in accordance with the requirements specified at the beginning of the semester

- GW2301-L1: Fundamentals of clinical medicine and psychology 1, written exam, 90 min, 100% of the module grade

The module comprises a written examination with duration and scope in accordance with PVO. Ungraded preliminary examinations are short presentations. These must have been completed and positively assessed before the first examination.
