Broad basis - extensive opportunities for specialization

The special highlight of the Lübeck computer science course is the individual design options in each semester. In addition to being able to choose the most interesting modules and thus create your own individual profile, you also have the option of pursuing one of the three attractive specializations on offer: Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Software Systems Engineering or Web and Data Science or instead in the Master's Data Science and AI. In the Computer Science degree program, you can choose many modules from the related degree programs IT Security, Media Informatics, Medical Informatics and Robotics and Autonomous Systems, among others.

With a degree in Computer Science, our students are highly employable on the job market and therefore in great demand.

In the renowned CHE ranking, Lübeck's computer science regularly scores particularly well in criteria relating to student satisfaction, study organization and support.

The family atmosphere of the small university and the great leisure opportunities in Lübeck and the entire Baltic Sea region also contribute to the feel-good effect of studying at the University of Lübeck.

Introducing the Computer Science degree program

Bioinformatics and systems biology

At the interface of computer science and life sciences, the focus is on modern methods for analyzing genetic and neuronal data. The specialization combines sound fundamentals with current research in an interdisciplinary environment.

Software Systems Engineering

This specialization covers the entire life cycle of complex software systems - from requirements analysis to ongoing operation. The focus is on sound methods for modeling, verification and practical implementation of modern software solutions.

Web and data science / data science and AI

The focus is on data-driven methods for analyzing large amounts of data, networked structures and intelligent systems. The specialization combines computer science, statistics and machine learning - with direct reference to practical applications in business, medicine and industry.

Individual deepening

A wide range of options allows students to choose their own personal focus in areas such as IT security, robotics, media informatics or mathematics. This creates an individual profile that corresponds to your own interests and goals - flexible, diverse and practical

Preliminary math course

As a first-year student in the STEM field, you have to attend important courses in mathematics. To make the transition from school to university mathematics easier for you, we have developed a preliminary course to prepare you for attending the mathematics courses.

Online self-assessments

Self-assessments allow you to check your own expectations of studying computer science and assess your personal preparation. Suitable tests are offered by the Komm, mach MINT initiative, the Service Einstieg Informatik of the Fakultätentag Informatik and MaLeMINT, which specifically assesses and strengthens mathematics skills.

Career prospects

There is a wide range of career opportunities, e.g. in software or hardware development or in consulting. A subsequent doctorate, e.g. at the University of Lübeck, enables a career in science. The university also offers support for setting up a company. And then there are many other fields of activity such as politics, education, ...

Frequently asked questions

It is helpful to compare the curricula with each other and also look at the elective catalogs.
