Preliminary course in mathematics

We look forward to welcoming you to one of our degree programs!

As a first-year student in the STEM field, you will have to attend important courses in mathematics. To make the transition from school to university mathematics easier for you, we have developed a preliminary course to prepare you for attending the mathematics courses.

The course repeats and deepens important contents of school mathematics (e.g. powers, logarithms, trigonometry, inequalities, proof techniques, mathematical writing and presentation methods) - but in a much more condensed way and with a significantly increased pace, scope and level of difficulty. Evaluations of previous courses show that participation can be a helpful intermediate step from school to university mathematics and is strongly recommended to all first-year students, regardless of their grades.

"I actually didn't want to attend the preliminary course at all, as I had achieved 14 points in my math A-levels. But then I went with a friend and I have to say: everything I learned there helped me a lot in the first two semesters. I already knew most of the topics from school, but not with the same precision and depth." (A math student at the end of the 2nd semester).

The two-week course is free of charge and is aimed at first-year students on the Biophysics, Computer Science, IT Security, Mathematics in Medicine and Life Sciences, Mathematics Mediation, Media Informatics, Medical Informatics, Medical Nutrition Science, Medical Engineering, Molecular Life Science and Robotics and Autonomous Systems courses.

The preliminary course starts on Monday, 22.09.2025, in the Audimax (AM1).
