Standard period of study: 5 semesters
Start: Winter semester
Type of admission: Degree program with admission requirements
The additive Bachelor's degree course in Occupational Therapy/Logopaedics (B.Sc.) is aimed at professionals who have completed vocational training in occupational therapy or logopaedics as well as breathing, speech and voice teachers. The part-time degree program enables students to expand their diagnostic and therapeutic skills through scientifically sound and theory-based knowledge. It is based at the Department of Medicine and offers interprofessional learning as well as the opportunity to specialize in fields such as paediatrics, neurology or orthopaedics.
The course enables students to learn methods for applying scientific findings in everyday therapeutic practice. It also offers the opportunity to open up new professional fields of activity and improve cooperation in interprofessional teams. Students can acquire an internationally recognized academic degree and remain employed at the same time. The course is free of charge except for the semester fee and takes place on three weekdays (Wednesday to Friday) to ensure optimal compatibility with professional practice.
The compatibility of studying and working is great. You have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and gain practical work experience at the same time. The exchange with students from other health science courses is also very helpful for occupational therapy work.
The course has strengthened me in my therapeutic role and helped me to think outside the box and critically question therapeutic approaches.
The small size of the degree program creates a very personal atmosphere. This means that you get to know your fellow students quickly and the lecturers even address you by name.
Interdisciplinarity and interprofessionalism are not only intensively discussed here, but also actively practiced - for example in module GW3020, which takes place together with students of nursing, applied nursing sciences, occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy.
I trained as an occupational therapist a few years ago. I was worried that it would be difficult to start studying. However, I feel very well guided and supported by the lecturers.
What sets the University of Lübeck apart from other universities is its strong medical focus, which I have noticed particularly in the field of speech therapy. Another plus point are the mental health courses and their integration into everyday student life.
The campus is beautifully embedded in nature, so you can get some fresh air between lectures and still be in Lübeck's city center quickly.
As I can imagine opening my own practice after completing my studies, I am very happy to have been equipped with the necessary know-how in the health economics and quality management module.
The course is very well organized. At the beginning of the semester, you always receive a complete schedule with all the courses for the whole semester, which is updated regularly. There are also regular meetings with the course coordinator, where important information is discussed and questions about the course are clarified.
As part of a separate module, we are taught the basics of scientific work at the beginning of our studies so that we are well prepared for writing our Bachelor's thesis at the end of the course.
The course enables students to critically reflect on and further develop their therapeutic practice and to solve practical problems. It lays the foundations for the implementation and management of tasks and requirements in healthcare. The Bachelor's degree opens up access to further Master's courses and opens up prospects in research and teaching.
The course builds on the completed vocational school training in occupational therapy or speech therapy and the degree from the CJD Schlaffhorst-Andersen School. It comprises a total of 180 ETCS. Of these, 80 ETCS are credited towards the specialist school training.
The admission requirements are a completed vocational training course in occupational therapy or speech therapy or a degree from the CJD Schule Schlaffhorst-Andersen (proof in the form of a professional certificate) and a university entrance qualification (Abitur certificate). Prospective students without a high school diploma have the opportunity to take a university aptitude test at the University of Lübeck. An application for this examination can be submitted by February 15th of each year. You can find more information here. The Occupational Therapy/Logopaedics course is admission-free, i.e. there are no admission restrictions such as a numerus clausus.
The course comprises 5 semesters part-time (2.5 years). It begins each year in the winter semester. The first four semesters comprise 12 to 14 semester hours per week (SWS). The course includes lectures, seminars, tutorials and work shadowing. The courses take place on three weekdays (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). The 5th semester comprises only a few face-to-face courses and is mainly intended for the Bachelor's thesis. The lecture period in the winter semester begins in mid-October and in the summer semester at the beginning of April. An orientation week is held for first-year students directly before the start of the lecture period.
The course is designed as a part-time course. There are no lectures on Mondays and Tuesdays.
There are no tuition fees in Schleswig-Holstein. Only semester and registration fees are payable.
