Course of studies, specific fields and terms:

  • Bachelor Psychology 2020, compulsory, psychology

Classes and lectures:

  • Research-oriented internship (project work, 2 SWS)

Workload:

  • 30 hours in-classroom work
  • 150 hours work on an individual topic (research and development) and written elaboration

Contents of teaching:

  • Introduction to the research process and the planning of empirical studies
  • Development and justification of psychological questions and hypotheses
  • Selection and application of suitable survey methods and research designs
  • Implementation of data collection under consideration of ethical and practical research conditions
  • Data preparation, descriptive and inferential statistical analysis with suitable software
  • Interpretation and discussion of empirical results in a theoretical and application-related context
  • Written and oral presentation of research results according to scientific standards
  • Due to the interactive design of the seminar dates and the practical work in small groups, attendance of 80% is compulsory in this module. Students who are absent more than 3 times per semester cannot be admitted to the examination. No substitutions are provided.

Qualification-goals/Competencies:

  • Students can derive, theoretically substantiate and operationalize psychologically relevant questions.
  • Students are able to develop suitable research designs and select methodologically appropriate survey and evaluation procedures.
  • Students can systematically collect and process empirical data and analyze it using basic statistical methods.
  • Students are able to classify empirical results theoretically, reflect on them critically and draw scientifically sound conclusions.
  • Students are able to present research results orally and in writing in a structured manner and according to scientific conventions.
  • Students can work scientifically in a team, coordinate tasks cooperatively and assume responsibility in the research process.
