Classes and lectures:

  • PF3151-V: Person and environment in nursing care (lecture, 1 SWS)
  • PF3152-S: Person and environment in care (seminar, 1 SWS)
  • PF3151-S: Theories and methods of person- and family-centred care (seminar, 1 SWS)

Workload:

  • 45 hours in-classroom work

  • 25 hours private studies

Contents of teaching:

  • Theories, models and current empirical evidence on person-centred, family-centred and culturally sensitive care: similarities and differences
  • Definition of core concepts such as vulnerability, culture/diversity, environment, shared decision-making, empowerment and participation/participation, quality of life and meaningfulness
  • Strategies for person- and family-centred care in the care of special groups of people: People with dementia and other cognitive impairments, people with disabilities, children with chronic illnesses and their families, people in palliative living situations, people with access barriers to the care system (e.g. for language or economic reasons)
  • Environment as a goal and resource of nursing care
  • Digitality in care
  • Migration in care Resource consumption in care, care and planetary health

Qualification-goals/Competencies:

  • Broadening/deepening knowledge: Students can describe theories, models and central concepts of person- and family-centred and culturally sensitive care and derive and justify similarities and differences.
  • Broadening/deepening knowledge, understanding of knowledge: Based on current scientific findings, students can describe the state of knowledge on the potentials, limitations and possible unintended or adverse effects of strategies of person- or family-centred or culturally sensitive care in the health care of potentially disadvantaged groups of people (see course content) and critically classify them with regard to ethical, legal and socio-cultural implications.
  • Understanding of knowledge: Students recognise the relationship between the design and framework conditions of nursing care on the one hand and the consumption of resources and planetary health on the other. They develop solutions for more environmentally and resource-conscious care, taking into account scientific and ethical requirements for the quality of care.
  • Use and transfer: Students are able to integrate basic principles of person- and family-centred and culturally sensitive care into their own nursing activities in a way that is appropriate to the situation and target group.
  • Communication and coordination: Students are aware of the importance of the principles of person-centred communication for person-centred care.
  • Academic self-conception/professionalism: Students have a critically reflected understanding of the intended and unintended, sometimes adverse effects of ‘nurse migration’ or other ethically challenging political strategies for nursing care and are able to engage in a differentiated, theoretically and empirically based discussion of pros and cons.
