Course of studies, specific fields and terms:

Classes and lectures:
- Introduction into the German helthcare system (lecture, 2 SWS)
- Introduction Law (lecture, 1 SWS)
- History of Nursing an Health Professions (seminar, 1 SWS)
Workload:
- 90 hours private studies
- 60 hours in-classroom work
Contents of teaching:
- Social and health insurance systems in Germany, especially SGB V (statutory health insurance) and SGB XI (statutory long-term care insurance)
- Structure and organisation of the healthcare system in Germany (sectors, facilities, service providers, payers)
- Structures and organisational forms of nursing care in hospitals and other care settings (e.g. functional nursing, area nursing, reference nursing)
- Important legal framework conditions: above all the Nursing Act, the Elderly Care Act, personal, delegation and implementation responsibility in nursing care, confidentiality and data protection, relevant labour law provisions
- History of the nursing profession
- Current social tasks and roles of the nursing profession
- Professional policy developments and committees
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
- Knowledge enhancement: Students know and understand the basic structures of the health and social security systems in Germany and can explain the differences compared to the health systems of other countries.
- Broadening knowledge: Students are familiar with the roles and tasks of the various sectors, institutions and players in health and nursing care.
- Knowledge enhancement: Students know and understand the role and tasks of the nursing profession in the care settings of hospitals, outpatient care and inpatient long-term care.
- Broadening knowledge: Students know and understand important legal framework conditions for nursing work.
- Broadening/deepening knowledge: Students can describe the historical development of the nursing profession - also in distinction to neighbouring healthcare professions - in outline and name and classify milestones in the professionalisation of the profession.
- Use and transfer: You will be able to recognise the organisational and legal framework conditions to be taken into account in an individual care situation (low to medium degree of complexity) and to take them adequately into account in your own decisions.
- Communication and coordination: Students are able to formulate their own well-informed professional and health policy positions and defend them with arguments.
- Understanding of the profession: Students are able to critically reflect on and evaluate current health and professional policy developments against the background of legal and structural framework conditions and historical developments.

- Successful participation in a test (Introduction to Law) and completion of a presentation (History of Nursing and Health Professions)
Module examination(s):
- PF1400-L1: Legal and social framework conditions of nursing care, seminar presentation with colloquium, 30 minutes, 100% of the ungraded module grade
The examination (seminar presentation with colloquium 20 min + 10 min discussion) is not graded and is deemed to have been completed if it is passed (B certificate). The exact requirements for the presentation will be announced by the lecturer responsible for the module at the beginning of the module.
For students of SGO Nursing 2020, 4 SWS lecture is deviating, no seminar is planned.
For Nursing SGO 2020, 60 integrated practical hours are planned, the self-study is set at 30h.
