Hearing acoustics and audiological technology

Listen Understand!

Hearing Acoustics is aimed at anyone who shares a fascination for hearing and the processing of audio signals. It provides the ideal prerequisites for developing and researching systems for processing audio signals, in particular hearing aids. Together, the University of Lübeck and the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences offer exciting modules in the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), medicine, psychology, signal processing, measurement technology and psychoacoustics. Thanks to the collaboration with the Lübeck University of Music, students can also specialize in acoustics and sound engineering.

After graduating, graduates have comprehensive knowledge of hearing science and hearing technology as well as the latest findings on auditory perception and signal processing. They understand the principles of auditory processing, the mathematical modeling of the hearing process and algorithmic methods of signal processing. They are also familiar with modern medical imaging technologies and can use modern hearing aids. With these skills, they can make a scientifically sound contribution to audiological care and promote the further development of hearing acoustics and audiological technology.

Opinions of students

Lübeck is a stronghold of hearing acoustics and all contacts are therefore close by. It therefore made sense for me to do my Master's degree in this city after my Bachelor's degree.

Introducing the Hearing Acoustics and Audiological Technology degree program

Cooperation

The Master's program is a unique cooperation between the University of Lübeck and the TH Lübeck. In addition, there are further cooperation partners: the University of Music, the German Hearing Aid Institute and the Vocational School for Hearing Acoustics. It is therefore possible to take a wide range of courses.

Personal advice

As it is a small degree program, a very personal mentoring relationship is possible.

Laboratories

The cooperation makes it possible for students to have access to the hearing laboratories. There are both impact-protected rooms and 360-degree loudspeaker systems.

Career prospects

Graduates in hearing acoustics have a wide range of employment opportunities, from clinics to industry. Employment as an audiologist is just as possible as working in a research department of a hearing aid or loudspeaker manufacturer. Thanks to the knowledge acquired, a doctorate, e.g. in the field of signal processing or auditory cognition, is also possible.

Frequently asked questions

The Lübeck campus with its technical college, university, hearing academy, the German Hearing Aid Institute and university hospital forms a unique cluster where all aspects of hearing can be researched.

No, even if the focus is of course on this area, you will still acquire many basic skills which are of course also needed in other areas. Thanks to the solid basic training in mathematics, programming and signal processing, technical work outside of hearing acoustics or biomedicine is also possible.

Hearing aid acoustician is a demanding profession that has long been needed in other sectors, for example in the hearing aid and cochlear implant industry, in building and room acoustics or in the automotive industry. That's why we don't just teach you the scientific basics, medical science and technology in six semesters at the TH Lübeck. You will also actively research practical solutions for your future working life.
