Course of studies, specific fields and terms:

Classes and lectures:

  • PY2500-S: Specialization Biological Psychology (seminar / exercises, 2 SWS)

Workload:

  • 30 hours in-classroom work
  • 90 hours private studies and exercises

Contents of teaching:

  • Specialization on electrophysiology (EEG, local field potentials, extra and intracellular activity)
  • Specialization - memory processing (Neurobiology, theories on sleep-dependent memory)
  • Interactions between neuronal and non-neuronal processes, with a focus on sleep
  • Research methods for investigations in animals and humans, including a practical demonstration
  • Brain development, brain damage and neuroplasticity

Qualification-goals/Competencies:

  • Knowledge on behavioral tests and other research methods, with a focus on electrophysiological methods
  • Knowledge on how to plan and analyze studies
  • Understanding of basic interactions between neuronal and non-neuronal processes
  • To obtain skills on the critical evaluation of scientific literature and how to sort new information
  • How to apply knowledge to improve society as a whole

Module examination(s):
- PY2501-L1: Advanced Biological Psychology, portfolio examination consisting of:
50 points in the form of a written exam, 50 points in the form of a presentation of the presentation.

The grade is calculated as follows: 50 to 54 points for a 4.0, then 55 to 59 points for a 3.7, and so on, up to 95 to 100 points for a 1.0.
