- PY1601-Ü: History, theory and ethics and law of psychology and psychotherapy (exercise, 2 SWS)

- PY1601-S: History, theory and ethics and law of psychology and psychotherapy (seminar, 2 SWS)
Workload:

Contents of teaching:
- History of psychology and psychotherapy in their relationship to neighboring fields (especially psychiatry and neuroscience)
- Basics of historical science studies and epistemology with reference to psychology and psychotherapy (concepts, central theories and research methods)
- Ethics of Psychology and Psychotherapy in Research and Practice
- History and development of psychology, psychotherapy, and psychiatry, including their respective forms of institutionalization
- Professional and social legal framework for psychotherapeutic practice
- Contexts, places and forms of institutionalisation of psychological research and psychiatric-psychotherapeutic interventions
- Body constructions, gender roles and gender research in psychology
- The roles of psychology and psychotherapy in society and in the media public sphere
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
- Students can present and classify central stages and controversies of the historical development of psychology and psychotherapy as science and academic professional practice.
- They can explain basic concepts, theories and methods of historical science studies and epistemology.
- They can formulate and assess ethical principles for scientific and applied practices and apply them to specific case studies.
- They can identify violations of ethical principles and legal requirements in scientific and applied practices and take countermeasures.
- They understand professional and social legal implications of the production and application of psychological knowledge and can demonstrate this with case studies.
- They can identify contextual, medial and gender-specific aspects of psychological research and practice, identify their various social implications and critically discuss them.
- They can research, evaluate and critically discuss scientific literature on the above-mentioned topics.
