Contents of teaching:
- Structure and function of the human nervous system, especially the CNS
- Evolution of the nervous system
- Neuroscience methods, especially neuroimaging
- Classical neuroscientific studies
- Neurobiological foundations of homoeostasis, pain, emotions and social behaviour
- Mind-body problem
- Macroscopic preparation of the human brain
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
- Students are able to extract relevant information from lectures and seminars
- Students know what the mind-body problem is and approaches to solve the mind-body problem
- Students know important macroscopic structures of the human brain can identify these structures in preparations and slices and explain their function
- Students know the mechanisms of evolution and can explain them with regard to neuroscientifically relevant questions and findings
- Students know important neuroscientific methods, especially functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and can explain their applications, limitations and significance
- Students can explain and assess ethical problems in neuroscientific research
- Students can understand, summarize, present and critically discuss basic original research articles
- Students can critically and constructively discuss contributions of their fellow students and develop a productive culture of debate

- PY2000-L1: Biological Psychology, written exam, 100min, 100% of the module grade
Participation in the first lecture and the first seminar is a prerequisite for participation in the rest of the module.
