Our mission
The Student Academy of the University of Lübeck is a mediation and communication platform for young people with a focus on an active scientific examination of current and socially important topics, e.g. from the fields of digitalization, bioengineering, environment and health. Accompanied by the transfer of knowledge and working methods, primarily in the STEM subjects and in cooperation with schools and their teachers, such topics are offered in various age-appropriate formats over different periods of time. Here, project-oriented approaches that encourage participation and involvement play a major role.
The Pupils' Academy is geared towards subjects of research and teaching at the university and thus provides an authentic insight into modern science, from basic topics to very specific applications. In particular, the complexity of our world as well as the close networking of different fields and the associated importance of interdisciplinary work for solving larger problems are emphasized.
The Student Academy creates a place of communication for young people with similar interests, especially in the STEM subjects, and promotes their professional and interdisciplinary cooperation. In study and laboratory groups, problems are approached and solutions are jointly developed and discussed. Pupils are encouraged to present their questions and solutions to their peers in particular, but also to their parents, teachers or to the public in newspaper articles or online.
Through their work in the Pupils' Academy, not least through contact with academics and students at the university, pupils are shown how they can contribute to future topics through their studies and later work. This enables young people to play an active role in planning and shaping their own future.
