  • GW3110-S:Complementary and Integrative Medicine (seminar, 2 SWS)

Workload:

  • Definitions of complementary medicine, integrative medicine, naturopathic treatment
  • Introduction to Complementary Medicine
  • Basics of phytotherapy, indications, principles of action, side effects, application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence-based approach.
  • Basics of classical homeopathy, indications, principles of action, side effects, application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence base
  • Grundlagen der Akupunktur als ein Teilgebiet der traditionellen chinesischen Medizin, Indikationen, Wirkprinzipien, Nebenwirkungen, Anwendung, Therapievorschläge anhand von Fallbeispielen, Evidenzbasierung
  • Basics of nutritional therapy, indications, principles of action, side effects, application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence base
  • Basics of aromatherapy/care, indications, principles of action, side effects, forms of application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence-based approach.
  • Basics of manual therapy, indications, principles of action, side effects, forms of application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence base
  • Basics of anthroposophic medicine, indications, principles of action, side-effects, forms of application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence-based treatment.
  • Basics of mind-body medicine, indications, principles of action, side effects, forms of application, therapy suggestions based on case studies, evidence-based approach.
  • Interprofessional case discussion with the inclusion of complementary medicine procedures on a selected clinical picture

Qualification-goals/Competencies:

  • Students can describe therapeutic principles of complementary medicine procedures.
  • Students can discuss the effectiveness of complementary medicine procedures.
  • Students can discuss the risks of complementary medicine procedures.
  • Students can critically evaluate studies on complementary medicine procedures.
  • Students will be able to research guidelines, systematic reviews and clinical studies on complementary medicine procedures and classify them in the concept of evidence-based care.
  • Students can identify patients who benefit from complementary medicine procedures.
  • Students can advise patients on complementary medicine procedures.
  • Students can discuss complementary medicine procedures with colleagues from the health sector.

The module is interprofessional, so that the seminars are attended simultaneously by students of nursing, medicine, midwifery, speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
