Special admission requirements

There are factors that influence admission. These include, for example, service, taking up a second degree course or particular hardship.

Applications are still submitted via the application portal.

Performance of a service

If you are performing a service (military service or federal voluntary service), you can defer a permit that has already been issued.

They can then reapply after completing their service and will be given priority for admission. In the event of equal grades, applicants with completed service have priority.

Second degree

Second degree applicants are persons who have already completed a degree at a German university and now wish to apply for a second degree program with restricted admission.

In consideration of those who do not yet have a degree, admission to a second degree course is restricted. A maximum of three percent of the available study places are available.

A course of study is considered completed when the prescribed final examination (e.g. state examination, Bachelor's, Master's) has been successfully passed. Applications for a Master's degree course following a Bachelor's degree course do not count as a second degree unless the applicant already has a Master's, Diplom, state examination or Magister degree.

To apply for a second study place, you must submit your previous university transcript and a letter of motivation with a written explanation of your second study wish. This will be requested in the application portal.

Second degree applicants for human medicine can find out more at hochschulstart.de.

Hardship cases

For cases of hardship, 2% of the study places in admission-restricted degree programs are reserved.

For a case of hardship, there must be such serious health, social or family reasons that it is unreasonable to wait even one semester for admission, even if particularly strict standards are applied.

The hardship application must be submitted in writing, together with a medical certificate, birth certificate if you have children, etc.

When applying for the Human Medicine course, the hardship application is sent directly to the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung(hochschulstart.de).

Compensation for disadvantages

The average grade and the waiting time are essential selection criteria for the allocation of degree programs with restricted admission.

If it is proven that performance impairments for which the applicant is not responsible have prevented him/her from obtaining the higher education entrance qualification at an earlier point in time or from achieving a better average grade in the higher education entrance qualification, the waiting time can be improved or the grade raised.

Corresponding proof (officially certified copies) must be enclosed!

If an application is to be made to improve the waiting time or average grade, evidence such as a school report must be submitted.

No compensation for disadvantages can be claimed for applications for Master's degree programs.
