Orientation week

Hello and welcome to the University of Lübeck!

Orientation Week at our university is the perfect start to your studies and an important milestone on your journey into university life.

Before the academic year really gets underway, you’ll have an orientation week (affectionately known as “Die Vorwoche” here), during which you can get to know the university, the campus, and the city. What makes it special: Orientation Week is organized entirely by students!

We aim to offer you a varied program that gives you the chance to meet other first-year students and get valuable tips and advice on studying.

Through a mix of informational sessions, interactive activities, and social gatherings, we aim to help you get off to a smooth start in your studies while laying the groundwork for new friendships and networks. Participation is, of course, optional – but from experience, we can say that those who join us start their academic journey with an extra dose of motivation and guidance.

During Vorwoche, mentors from your program will guide you and serve as your personal points of contact. They’ll not only help you find your way around the campus – which can be a bit overwhelming at first – but they’ll also answer your questions and help you make your first connections.

On this page, we provide a general overview of the events from the Vorwoche. However, all specific details, such as locations and times, can be found in the Moodle course: https://moodle.uni-luebeck.de/course/view.php?name=VorwocheAktuell
Be sure to check the Moodle course regularly to stay up to date and not miss any updates!

Expiry of the orientation week

Vorwoche always takes place during the last week before classes begin.

It kicks off for all students on Friday, October 2, 2026 (immediately following the introductory math course).

The week concludes with a celebration on Friday, October 9, 2026, at our freshman party in the Audimax.

You can always find the most up-to-date schedule for the Vorwoche in the Moodle-Kurs.

Events of the orientation week

Introductory Sessions, Tips & Tricks

In the first introductory session, you will receive all the essential information about your studies in one compact presentation. Don’t worry – you don’t have to understand everything right away; that’s what the whole week is for.

Afterwards, your student council (it represents student interests and acts as a voice toward the lecturers) will give you tips and tricks for studying.

Check-In

The check-in marks the start of the fun part of the Vorwoche. Here, you will receive your goodie bag, including a free university T-shirt. You will also have the chance to ask any questions about the Vorwoche that are on your mind.

Film Night with OPK

“Operation Popcornkino” (OPK) is a university group that regularly hosts movie nights in the Audimax. Traditionally, a film night also takes place during the Vorwoche.

City Rally

There are many ways to get to know the most beautiful city in the world. One of them is the city rally: at various stations around the city center, you can explore Lübeck in a fun and interactive way.

City Tour

If you prefer a more traditional way of discovering the city, you can join one of the guided city tours.

Bring-Along Picnic

Enjoy a relaxed meal together with other first-year students in front of the Audimax? That’s exactly what the bring-along picnic is for. If the weather is bad, we will of course move indoors so the Franzbrötchen don’t get soggy.

First-Year Welcome Ceremony

Not only the students but also the university would like to welcome you. Traditionally, the university executive board does this in a ceremonial event at St. Petri in Lübeck.

Campus Tour

It’s easy to get lost on our campus during the first few weeks. To help prevent that, we offer a campus tour. There isn’t enough time to open every door, but you will at least get to know all lecture halls and the most important seminar rooms.

Lab Coat Sale

Some degree programs, such as human medicine, certain health sciences, or natural sciences, require a lab coat during the course of study. So you don’t have to shop online, you can purchase one at a low cost from us at the AStA at any time. During the Vorwoche, we offer special times to accommodate the high demand.

Poetry Slam

With all the informational events and getting to know the campus, our poetry slam provides the perfect balance.

Campus Rally

Our campus rally gives you another opportunity to explore the campus. The focus here is on campus life. You can get to know student committees as well as university groups.

Pub Crawl

For many students, student life includes spending evenings in the old town with friends. To find out which pubs to visit, we offer a guided pub crawl where you can sample different places.

Minigame Marathon

Here you can prove your skills and teamwork. The MuG and Psy student councils invite you to compete in self-selected groups in various small games.

Grill & Chill

Once again, the area in front of the Audimax becomes a place of great taste. There will be a variety of grilled food (including vegan options) and drinks at student-friendly prices. Organized by the ANT and MaIn student councils.

First-Year Fair

Looking for your first job as a working student or student assistant? At our fair, companies and organizations from Lübeck and the surrounding area present themselves. In addition to job ideas, you will also find many opportunities for meaningful volunteer work.

First-Year Party

The grand finale of the Vorwoche! While there are various parties at the start of the semester, this one is special: on the one hand, it is – like the rest of the Vorwoche – entirely organized by students, and on the other, it takes place in the Audimax. And what better place is there to truly celebrate life and enjoy drinks at student-friendly prices? The first-year party is organized by the university group P++.

Frequently asked questions and contact options

The organizing team for the Vorwoche is known as the “Kerngruppe”. If you have any questions or need clarification about the Vorwoche, the Kerngruppe is always available to help.

The Kerngruppe is made up entirely of students – after all, they know best how to get off to a good start at Uni.

You can always contact the Kerngruppe by mail via vorwoche@asta.uni-luebeck.de.

Otherwise, you'll also find a Q&A forum on the Moodle course of Vorwoche, where you can ask any questions you may have.
