- PY4344-S Discrimination-critical and Intersectional Engagement with Mental Illnesses (seminar, 2 SWS)
Workload:
- 90 hours private studies
- 30 hours in-classroom work
Contents of teaching:
- Fundamentals of discrimination criticism
- Origin, development and basic concepts of intersectionality (with regard to identity categories such as gender, ethnicity, class, sexuality) and their significance in the context of mental illnesses
- Discrimination in the context of mental illness and its consequences
- Application of discrimination criticism to case studies from psychology and psychotherapy
- Strategies for avoiding discrimination in psychotherapeutic work
- Social framework conditions and the influence of current discourses on the perception and treatment of mental illnesses
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
- Students are familiar with central concepts of intersectionality.
- They have an understanding of discriminatory framework conditions in society and healthcare.
- They can apply anti-discriminatory and intersectional approaches in the context of the discussion of the genesis and treatment of mental illnesses.
- They have the ability to reflect on their own training and practice in a way that is critical of discrimination.
