About us

The history

The international preparatory course has existed since 2016 as an integration program for prospective students from other countries. In addition to subject-specific preparation for studying at the University of Lübeck, language courses (B2 and C1) modules are also offered.

This allows initial experience to be gained on how to establish study aptitude, study skills and subject orientation. In 2020, the successful concept was then modified to also offer preparation to interested students with a German Abitur.

Our philosophy

In times when the dropout rate in STEM subjects is over 30%, we have created a new and long-term concept to make the transition from school to university easier. Corona in particular exacerbated this situation and many high school graduates felt and still feel ill-equipped for university studies. This is why prospective students with a German Abitur are now also benefiting from the proven concept of the integration program. They are given the opportunity to prepare specifically for studying at the University of Lübeck.

The propaedeutic course is taught by doctoral students and students from the university's higher semesters. Our teaching staff receive didactic training through internal further and advanced training. It is part of our concept that students teach the preparatory courses: This is because they can not only teach prospective students the subject lessons, but also report from their own study experiences. They know exactly what is important in the first year of study.
