Every day, numerous students, employees and researchers commute to the campus from Lübeck and the surrounding area. The way in which this journey is organised has a major impact on quality of life, the environment and traffic volumes - both for individuals and for the region as a whole.
The University of Lübeck is committed to promoting sustainable, practical and contemporary mobility solutions. These include attractive offers such as carpooling, car sharing, bike sharing, better cycling infrastructure and digital information about travelling to university - all of which are currently being developed. The aim is to make everyday commuting more efficient, environmentally friendly and convenient.
With the new mobility project LueCaMo, the University of Lübeck (UzL) is bundling its measures for climate-friendly mobility for students and employees to and on campus. The project is funded as part of the "mobil gewinnt" innovation funding programme from the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV). The project was launched on 1 January 2025 and is scheduled to run until the end of June 2027.

The aim is to permanently establish sustainable programmes, significantly reduce CO2 emissions and ensure that the measures implemented are economically viable after the funding phase. The results serve as a model for other university locations. In addition, the project contributes to the transformation of the campus into a green, healthy place - with exemplary character and appeal for the entire region.
In 2022, the mobility behaviour of university members was systematically surveyed for the first time by the Department of Quality and Organisational Development. Based on these results and further analyses, a comprehensive mobility concept was developed in collaboration with the consulting companies EcoLibro GmbH and Steinbeis-Beratungszentrum Innovation & Mobilität. The resulting LueCaMo project was initiated by a successful application submitted by Chancellor Sandra Magens and project developer Dr Julia Figge. LueCaMo is thus one of the eight newly selected model projects in the field of corporate mobility management that have been selected nationwide for the 2025-2027 funding period.
LueCaMo is based on a multi-part concept: a premium model and car pooling promote shared travel and offer attractive alternatives to motorised private transport. In addition, a bike-sharing scheme provides a convenient connection between the campus and the surrounding railway stations. Improved parking facilities, secure bicycle garages, changing rooms, charging points and smart tools improve the conditions for climate-friendly mobility on and to the campus. The measures are coordinated by a mobility manager. The project is also being scientifically monitored and evaluated - for sustainable results and practical transferability.
